VIII. Summary & Highlights

In addition to the specific accomplishments of the project, there are additional highlights of interest of the project that should be noted. This list identifies some noteworthy items, or facts, that might make this project somewhat unique:

• The project was identified as the second statewide priority for funding in the 2005 February grant cycle.
• The project involved 27 lakes in two counties.
• Supporters included not just the applicant, but three Towns, two counties, several lake and property owners groups, individual lakeshore owners, many volunteers, and two agencies.
• Comments overheard at a workshop indicated that this project included the vast majority of volunteer hours of any grant project in Wisconsin.
• The Ad Hoc Committee designed the project, and carried it out without hiring a consulting firm. Fortunately expertise was found and was hired to perform the duties of the project..
• Nearly 2500 hours of volunteer time were donated by participants to accomplish the project. (See Charts below for distribution)
• The Aquatic Plant Survey participated in the ground floor of a new and evolving survey protocol.
• The Clean Boats Clean Waters portion of the project included over 1100 volunteer hours (over one-half a person-year) of effort.
• The project followed a concept of Community Problems Requires Community Solutions throughout the entire planning and implementation process.
• A baseline of aquatic plant data (GPS data points) was collected and is available for future aquatic plant monitoring as well as numerous other potential uses.
• No additional EWM was found in the survey.
