Agenda items:

1.      Minutes from the April Meeting

Minutes from the last meeting were reviewed. A motion to accept the minutes as submitted was made by Lee Wiesner, seconded by David Pease; approved.

2.      Volunteer Appreciation Lunch

We had a good turnout at the volunteer lunch with almost 40 people in attendance. The committee agreed it was a good way to kick off the new season.

3.      CBCW grant, employees and volunteers –

Hannah and Tom were hired to work as boat landing monitors but withdrew their names before starting. Scott Bell and Robert Higgins have replaced them. Jack discussed some of the verbiage on the data collection forms. He has advised monitors as to how they should approach boaters and complete the questions on the form. Jack discussed the schedule for the Memorial Day weekend and the 4th of July week.  Monitors will work the regular hours on the Friday prior to the 4th and the full week following the 4th.  Kits for volunteers for Upper and Middle lakes are being kept at Jim’s Bait Shop. Jack prepared a contact sheet that will be taped to the clip boards of the volunteers and paid monitors. Jack is wondering if we will be ordering hats and T-shirts for volunteers. We agreed they should have hats and T-shirts if they want. Jack will have Elaine order them so we get them tax free.

4.      Clean Boats Clean Waters Data Reporting

Gus explained how the data will be recorded all on one form and entered into one database this year. Ingemar emphasized how important it is to keep track of all our volunteer hours.

5.      Tomahawk/Sandbar lakes research project

Water samples from both of the lakes have been taken and are still in storage. Some discussion followed expressing frustration with the samples not being collected and it has been two weeks since they have been taken. Are the samples still good? Committee members are wondering when the treatment will start and what is the criterion for setting the date of the treatment?

Gus and Ingemar have put up the snow fence between the two lakes. Signs encouraging “Slow No Wake” boating have been posted. In the future 43 signs will be posted advising people about the project when it begins. These signs will be in place for about a month.

Some discussion followed on the treatment of Tomahawk Lakes. Ingemar expressed appreciation to many folks who are helping with the project.

6.      Other Business

Lee mentioned he was able to send many of our boat landing volunteers to the Northern Lakes Conference.

7.      Next Meeting Date

Next meeting date is June 16, 2008 at 6:30 PM at the Barnes Town Hall.

Motion to Adjourn: Lee Wiesner, seconded by Dave Pease; approved.

Meeting adjourned at 7:30 P.M.
