AIS Committee Chair Position

The Town is looking for someone to take over as AIS Committee Chair for the next grant cycle.  Below is a list of current and future tasks.  It may not be all inclusive and it may be that some of these tasks could be delegated to other Committee members; that would be up for discussion.  It is anticipated that the Chair would be required to volunteer no more than an average of 10 hours a month from March 15 to October 31st.  At present, this is an unpaid position; however, that may change in the future if money could be saved on consultants.

If you are interested in serving as the AIS Committee Chair, please write a letter of interest, addressed to the Town Board and the AIS Committee expressing your interest and listing your strengths and skills with regards to the position.  Your letter can be emailed to: [email protected], dropped off at the Town Office or mailed in:  3360 County Hwy N, Barnes, WI 54873

AIS Committee Chair Position Duties:

  • Prepare agenda and chair monthly meetings March-October.

  • Assist Town Clerk tracking expenses, approve employee time and invoices for payment.

  • Work with Consultant and DNR in preparing Surface Water grant applications.

  • Work with Consultant, Town Clerk, and DNR on submission of grant reimbursement requests.

  • Prepare AIS budget and attend Town Board budget planning to present plan annually.

  • Assign Committee tasks as required by grants and enlist Committee assistance in updates and reports.

  • Oversee AIS Coordinators and ensure understanding of their roles. CBCW Coordinator oversee Boat Landing Monitors schedule and data entry in SWIMS. BAISS Coordinator oversees diver and volunteer schedules, sets Lake harvesting timeline, and provides summary reports as required by DNR Grant Agreement.

  • Coordinate AIS Coordinators and Social Media Coordinator in preparing letters, public notice, and reports.

  • Attend or appoint committee member to attend stakeholders’ monthly meetings: Town Board, Friends of Eau Claire Lakes, Barnes Area Conservation Club.

  • Ensure that Town website Aquatic Invasive Species information is kept up to date.

  • There may be other less significant tasks.

  • Approximately 6-10 hours per month, with more hours during grant application process and planning, less once projects are in place.

As Chair I have put in additional hours this year to set up templates for letters and reports as well as schedules so that annual tasks are simpler to accomplish in the future.
