September 17, 2007 MeetingEWM Committee meeting Ingemar Ekstrom called the meeting to order. Members present: Ingemar Ekstrom, Barb Romstad, Stefania Strzalkowska, Gerald Gustafson, Lee Wiesner, David Pease, Pamela Toshner, Mitch McGee Also present: Jack Conklin, EWM coordinator Agenda items: 1. Minutes from the Minutes from the last meeting were reviewed. A motion to accept the minutes as submitted was made by Gerald Gustafson, seconded by Lee Wiesner; approved. 2. Communications - Barb Thank you notes are being sent to the volunteers. Information and instructions were sent to all the people who volunteered to monitor the aquatic weeds on their lakeshore. Thank you notes will also be sent to the POA members who donated cash to the CBCW program. 3. CBCW Program Update Jack Conklin presented a job description that he authored after being in the position for the season. In the job description he proposed some changes to the actual job, feeling that the many hours he spent driving around to the various lakes was not a good use of his time nor was the money paid for his mileage well spent. Some discussion followed concerning the schedule of the monitor and the flexibility of his hours. The group discussed the coverage of and frequency of boaters at the landings. Gus indicated that he should soon be able to provide specific data about the numbers discussed. Jack felt that the monitors at the landings should be provided with communication devices. The group discussed different methods by which this could be accomplished. 4. CBCW Grant Hours Gerald Gustafson distributed a synopsis of the Barnes 2007 AIS Grant. · The total project cost is estimated to be $27,000 · Of that amount $7,500 was donated in volunteer hours · The state will pay $10,000 of the costs · The estimated cost to the Town of o POA has collected $1,890 toward the project that will help offset the Town’s actual costs. Final figures for project costs will be ready around the end of September. The final report for this grant will be due the end of 2008. 5. Tomahawk/Sandbar Lakes Research Grant The grant-ranking meeting was held last week. The Tomahawk/Sandbar Research Grant has been approved for funding. The cost to the Town of 6. Shoreline Monitoring – Stefannia Strzalkowska Stefannia pulled together all the information that was sent to the people who volunteered to do the shoreline monitoring.
