MINUTES OF THE TOWN OF BARNES

COMPREHENSIVE LAND USE PLANNING COMMITTEE

ISSUES AND OPPORTUNITIES MEETING OF MAY 12, 2004

Present: Comprehensive Land Use Planning Committee- Marcia Wellnitz, Dave Pease, Dave Scharlau, Duke Marten, Ron Pearson, Don Zigman, Marie Hughes, Lee Wiesner, Leslie Hall and Dixie Chermack.

Present: Issues and Opportunities Committee- Donna Porter.

Absent: Issues and Opportunities Committee-Dave Pederson and Dave Thorson.

Also present: Patrick Beilfuss, Cedar Corporation, Tim Kane, UW-Extension Agent and Carol Tierney.

The goals, objectives and program / policies were discussed, revised and condensed. Patrick will send us the final goals and objectives.

Marcia informed us about the Fire Department hosting “Be Somebody” event on Friday May 15, 2004 at Lake Road and Highway 27. The object is to recruit new fire department members. The event is sponsored by the fire departments of Ashland, Bayfield and Douglas Counties.

A discussion was given to ordinance enforcement. It was felt it was hard to enforce ordinances because of distance from the county. It was thought that perhaps 4 or 5 townships around Barnes Township could hire someone to enforce ordinances. It was suggested this idea could be brought up at a Bi-County (Bayfield / Ashland County) meeting.

Our next meeting will be June 9, 2004 at 6:30PM at the Barnes Town Hall. We will start working on the Agriculture, Cultural and Natural Resource Element. Patrick will contact the members of the Citizen’s Advisory Board who are interested in working on this element. He will also draft goals, objectives and program / policies and send them to this committee and to the Comprehensive Land Use Committee.

Motion to adjourn by Lee Wiesner, seconded by Marcia Wellnitz and carried. The meeting adjourned at 8:10PM.
